Kathleen Kras

Hons. BA, MSW intern

I am pleased to be joining The Compassion Project for my second internship as a counsellor.  My education (Honors Sociology, Psychology, and Legal Studies and Criminology) has fueled the passion I have to spend my days being a source of support, comfort, and counsel to anyone in need.  My work, volunteer, and personal experience has varied through the years to provide me with knowledge in several fields, including healthcare.

And now through my Master of Social Work program I have the opportunity to be here with an aim to advocate for others’ needs, and use my capabilities to facilitate change while upholding measures of inclusion and sensitivity.

I have over twenty years of lived experience with injury, illness, trauma and recovery which has given me insight into a world of marginalization and oppression, and the skills necessary to be resilient and improve outcomes.

I know how much help is essential to move beyond difficult circumstances and I want to be a resource for that action to take place.  I hope to take my strengths of providing compassion and empathy to each person I connect with here in this role.

Modalities I may draw upon are Cognitive-Behavior Theory, Trauma-Informed CBT, Systems Theory, Structural-Cultural Theory, Attachment Theory, Psychosocial Theory, Crisis Theory as well as Resiliency Theory, The Problem Solving Model, Solution-Focused Model, and Strengths-based Approach.  I will tailor my approach while working with each unique individual.  I am available for in-person and virtual sessions.  Please feel welcome to get in touch with me for a free 20 minute consultation.  I look forward to hearing from you!
