FAQ's

Who do you serve?

We work with all individuals, couples, and families for a variety of reasons. We offer counselling, psychotherapy, health and wellness coaching, and spiritual care/spiritual emergence guidance and support. Our work is deeply relational and person-centred. We value safer spaces in healthcare and, in particular, mental healthcare. Our clients come to see us because they haven't been helped in traditional healthcare settings. A great amount of our clients have actually been harmed.

Who are we?

Our community is diverse. We are queer and/or neurodivergent therapists.  We are BIPOC therapists. We are medical trauma and/or psychiatric survivors who have survived medical gaslighting or those who have been harmed in the context of receiving mental health services without acknowledging or addressing root causes like childhood or intergenerational trauma, gender or sexual identity or conceptualizing neurodivergence as psychiatric disease. Our lived experience informs our work. We are also highly educated and have invested considerably in ongoing professional development, wholistic healing,  psychotherapy and spiritual care.

Where are you located?

We provide virtual, phone and in person services in Hamilton, Ontario at our 206 Locke Street South location.

Are your services free?

The short answer is no, not yet. We are presently pursuing more sustainable funding. We do offer access to services on a case by case basis through our internship counsellor training program. To discuss low cost or pro bono services please contact us: info@thecompassionproject.ca.

Can you direct bill my insurance?

Please inquire about our direct billing option. We may be able to direct bill your insurance based upon your coverage. It is always necessary for you to contact your extended health benefit provider to discuss your benefits for psychotherapy or social work services.

We are not responsible for ensuring that you have coverage for services and are not liable for services that are not covered. We issue receipts for payment that you can use for reimbursement of your extended health benefits. We do not offer refunds for services.
